TV Show Stereotype #6: Brain Food...Literally...

Hello once again audience today I’m going to talk about a new show that has piqued my interest, which is called iZombie. Now this show is about a zombie named Liz Moore who eats the brains of dead murder victims to help solve their cases. This happens because whoever brain she eats, the deceased's memories and skills are temporarily transferred to her as long as she keeps eating the brain. With this concept of course there are many stereotypes that get portrayed through Liz from the brains she eats. One time she ate the brain of an Latino man and as you guessed it became quite the good lover. Another time she consumed the brain of an Asian man and gained his kung fu abilities. The list can go on and on but not all the victims are stereotypes, just interesting people for Liz to be for the episode. This doesn’t stop my enjoyment of the show at all as I like how Liz’s character can basically change from one episode to another and the reason for it is cool. In the end, I would still recommend the show to people just be aware of the stereotypes presented within it.

TV Show Stereotypes #2 A Continuation!

Hello welcome again, we are continuing from the last post , and talking about Breaking Bad once again. I’ve watched more of the show and been introduced to Gus, a very powerful drug lord who runs his business very cleverly. He is an African American character, who sells drugs to people worldwide, using Walter’s formula for meth. This feeds into the stereotype that Africans are useless to society, usually falling into a life of crime due to being degenerates. Now, Gus is by not means useless or dumb as he is an intelligent character in the series, being a really good antagonist for Walter and Jesse to overcome. This doesn’t make him unwatchable as I didn’t really mind it because he is such a good villain. Or course, this does kinda build upon the thought of blacks being a danger to society and scary to see as the character has an intimidating presence. First Actual Post! TV Show Stereotype #1

Hello it’s me again and to start off my blog I’m going to be talking about some stereotypes in one of the best TV shows ever made, Breaking Bad. I just started off watching the show, so I might post more about it later, but being a show about dealing drugs you need Mexican cartels. In the first season Tuco is pretty much the best example of how Mexicans are portrayed as criminals. He is a drug dealer who enjoys what he does and is just plain insane. I mean it is a show about drugs, so it would be odd if they weren’t any Mexicans but that doesn’t excuse it for continuing the stereotype. Tuco is also a violence man who just kills without a thought and it seems to be second nature to him. This continues the stereotype of Mexicans being remorseless killers. That doesn’t mean it wasn’t enjoyable for me to watch him as he wasn’t very offensive, just being a threat to the main characters, Walter and Jesse at the beginning of their story.
