TV Show Stereotypes #3: Very Modern

Hello once again, this time we are going to talk about the Stereotype in the show, A Modern Family. Particularly we are going to discuss Sofia Vergara’s character, Gloria Delgado, who is clearly the Latino sexy lady archetype. Not to drag her for that, Vergara is a very beautiful lady, and she uses it to her advantage so more power to her. Of course, that doesn’t excuse how she is continuing the stereotype of Latino women being objects of sexual appeal and a prop. Her exaggerated accent and dizzy portrait of Gloria doesn’t really help as well. In my opinion, it is damaging to Latino women as they can be more than just look and be played for a joke. Although I know that women are always objectified in some way but that doesn’t excuse what she is doing. But hey she is making bank out of this, so maybe I’m the one in the wrong.

First Actual Post! TV Show Stereotype #1

Hello it’s me again and to start off my blog I’m going to be talking about some stereotypes in one of the best TV shows ever made, Breaking Bad. I just started off watching the show, so I might post more about it later, but being a show about dealing drugs you need Mexican cartels. In the first season Tuco is pretty much the best example of how Mexicans are portrayed as criminals. He is a drug dealer who enjoys what he does and is just plain insane. I mean it is a show about drugs, so it would be odd if they weren’t any Mexicans but that doesn’t excuse it for continuing the stereotype. Tuco is also a violence man who just kills without a thought and it seems to be second nature to him. This continues the stereotype of Mexicans being remorseless killers. That doesn’t mean it wasn’t enjoyable for me to watch him as he wasn’t very offensive, just being a threat to the main characters, Walter and Jesse at the beginning of their story. It’ll be just my opinions on them and how it affects me in my life. TV Show Stereotype #6: Brain Food...Literally...

Hello once again audience today I’m going to talk about a new show that has piqued my interest, which is called iZombie. Now this show is about a zombie named Liz Moore who eats the brains of dead murder victims to help solve their cases. This happens because whoever brain she eats, the deceased's memories and skills are temporarily transferred to her as long as she keeps eating the brain. With this concept of course there are many stereotypes that get portrayed through Liz from the brains she eats. One time she ate the brain of an Latino man and as you guessed it became quite the good lover. Another time she consumed the brain of an Asian man and gained his kung fu abilities. The list can go on and on but not all the victims are stereotypes, just interesting people for Liz to be for the episode.
